Friends,
I found this writing on a wall in a closet of a place I lived with some buds right out of college. It was attributed to Herbert Hoover, but after digging - found out these bold statements of encouragement were excerpts from "Common Sense" by Thomas Paine.
When I first read these directives, I felt a sense of empowerment. More than fifteen years later, after keeping this in my files, it speaks louder every day that passes. I have hung it on every home and business office I lead work in, and even took it in a frame to a church retreat for men (Man Camp, www.crossroads.net) and had our unit sign the back of it, providing copies for all. I've utilized it to share during weekly Global Marketing Team meetings for inspiration, and often take pauses of refreshing my mind throughout the workday while digesting its motivation while breathing it's contents in tandem with appreciating God's window-scapes.
It reminds me to be steady, utilize willpower, and stay focused on what matters. A credo if you will. I couldn't agree more with Mr. Paine's philosophies here. Hope it encourages you as much, if not more than it has for me.
I recommend printing this, and reminding yourself of the inspirational power it holds. No matter your race, gender, ethnicity, religion, political stance, or the cards you've been dealt - there's at least one thought that can resonate with you.
Make bold declarations and take calculated risks. Utilize your gifts, talents, and abilities to embark upon intentional action steps towards your goals. Dare to live your life in a way that when "dirt day" arrived, you can look back after sliding into home with skinned up knees and your jersey tattered saying, "This I have done!".
Enjoy!
