Hoarders
"Stop carrying the regrets of others. Others happiness is not your responsibility. This doesn't mean don't be kind and caring, just realize this as an opportunity to stop carrying so much 'weight'."Read Haggai 1:1 through 2:23
Recently, a reality TV show featured people who have developed unhealthy compulsions to hoard different things. Even if these items are worthless or not needed, the people collect ever-larger piles of them, often filling their homes to the ceiling.
You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it (Haggai 1:6).
Haggai wasn’t describing a mental illness but rather a spiritual malaise. He observed a society that put God in the background while focusing on material possessions. Such a focus inevitably cuts off God’s blessing.
Whenever we lose sight of God in favor of our possessions, we discover the same truth. Without His blessing, our resources are pitifully limited. When we dedicate all that we have to God’s service, we can count on Him to provide for our needs. We avoid the unending pain of a covetous heart when we give our all to God.
Challenge for Today: Dedicate your resources to God and trust Him to provide for you.
