Read Habakkuk 1:1 through 3:19
Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior (Habakkuk 3:18).
When a verse begins with the word “yet,” readers realize there is more to come. It means the previous statement isn’t complete.
Think of the times that word is used. “We may be losing, yet the game’s not over.” “Your grades could be better, yet the semester isn’t over.”
In the use of “yet” in Habakkuk 3:18, readers are connected to the previous thought. Verse 17 speaks of fig trees not budding, vines holding no grapes, fields producing no foods, and no sheep or cattle in the pens. The sentence becomes complete after that three letter word “yet.” Even though. In spite of. Or, as some might say, “So what!”
Though the circumstances looked bleak, Habakkuk could choose joy. He knew so much more awaited.
Habakkuk took time to remember what God had done in the past. He then honestly declared the present situation. But he confessed more. He chose to depend on Almighty God. He chose joy.
Thought for Today: Although the circumstances are not ideal, realize today that God isn’t finished yet.
