Stand Out for Jesus
Read Psalms 140:1 through 143:12; 1 Corinthians 1:1–31
Deer, rabbits, frogs, and chameleons use camouflage to blend in with their surroundings to survive. Sometimes Christians do the same. We try to blend in rather than stand out and be different.
The Christians in Corinth were succumbing to worldly pressures and living lives of spiritual immaturity and, in some cases, immorality. Paul knew he had a special calling from God to proclaim the good news, and he stood out wherever he traveled. Paul wrote to the Corinthians and urged them to stand out for Jesus instead of trying to blend in.
To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours (1 Corinthians 1:2).
The believers in Corinth were to be sanctified and holy—different from the world. As citizens of God’s kingdom, we need to live blameless lives, and depend on Jesus for our strength.
