A Supportive Send-off
Read Psalm 18:1–50; Acts 13:1–24
Myra was having trouble concentrating in the Sunday service. Tomorrow she and four other Christian medical professionals would travel to aid a nation recently devastated by an earthquake. Myra felt unprepared for the journey. At the end of the service, the pastor asked Myra to stand and told the congregation where she would be spending the next few weeks. When the pastor began to pray for her, Myra heard others gathering around her whispering prayers of protection and strength for her journey. Myra felt better knowing she was not alone but supported by believers and God himself.
Barnabas and Saul also knew this encouragement before they left on their missionary journey.
So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off (Acts 13:3).
Our earnestness in supporting believers who are preparing to fulfill God’s work is just as essential today.
Challenge for Today: Call, e-mail, text, or pray for a believer who is preparing for a new ministry or who has been faithful to serve God at home.
