Dear poverty warrior,
I am aware of a family with six children who
require our support. I am not asking you to pay their bills, clean their house,
or make them accountable to what we feel is right – but rather to love on them
and encourage them through providing basic needs and compassion. Will you help
me battle evil, and conquer simple obstacles through faith, action, and love?
A friend said a prayer the other afternoon,
“…and help us look more like Jesus…”. If we are to look more like Him, we need
to act more like Him. Sometimes we can get in the way of ourselves through
judgment. If we allow the Spirit to lead us, it will show us that we need to
pursue restoration during tragedy and extinguish the distracting flames. It is
through our grace and tenacious pursuit towards resolution by way of our loving
actions that we will deliver abundance in the most essential of ways.
We have a call to action. We may not change
this family the way we deem they should be, act, and feel but we can certainly
help to provide better means in simple ways. How can we do this? Simple! Do you
have an old bed, dresser, or other supplies you are not using that would be of
benefit to kids ages 4-15? Maybe it’s something in your basement or a spare
room that you’re holding onto, but it’s not being utilized. We can help by
simply making more space in areas we are blessed.
We are constantly hit up for money,
sponsoring fundraisers, participating in trendy campaigns on social media, and
we also have our own responsibilities to pay bills, maintain a home and full
time job, being parents, and other activities that fuel our lives of abundance.
I feel called to take action because I know of six children who are suffering
in a situation they did not choose. I am working with others to introduce them
to programs and ways they can improve their circumstances and better their
God-given skills for a successful future. That will take miracles, time, and
help from compassionate, loving people like you.
These children are victims of generational
poverty. They do not have comfortable beds – they sleep on barely inflated air
mattresses. They store their clothes in milk crates and they are not provided
with healthy foods or meals to improve their brain activity and overall health.
Others and myself and I are investing our time to help them improve their
decision making skills, situation, and introduce them to methods to break the
cycle of poverty – the only world they know. I believe we’re called to
make this place more like the Kingdom of God in which we serve. These kids
didn’t choose their situation, but we can make the choice to fight for them in
easy ways, which shows them that someone cares, that they are worth it, that
they have a voice and they are loved. The way we can serve is through prayer,
sourcing some new or gently used items, and more prayer.
I am not asking you for money, hundreds of
hours of volunteer time, or to spite this family because of the situation they
are in. I am calling you to look more like Jesus, to serve with compassion, and
help me send a message to this family that they are worth it and they have
help. Please contact me or share my information if you, or someone you know
personally, may have items they could utilize, or know of a business, group, or
company that could alleviate some of the pain from the circumstances they’re
suffering. Let’s give these kids a chance to sleep better at night and perform
better in school. Will you help me provide a “hand-up,” not just a
“hand-out”? Please help me show them grace, and through the loving community we
are fortunate enough to be a part of – we can make a difference!
With
gratitude,
Brian
