Humble Acceptance

Read 1 Chronicles 28:1 through 29:30
I had it in my heart to build a house as a place of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, for the footstool of our God, and I made plans to build it. But God said to me, “You are not to build a house for my Name, because you are a warrior and have shed blood” (1 Chronicles 28:2,3).

David had served God faithfully as a warrior. However, his violent life was the reason God would not allow him to follow his dreams and build His holy temple. David had fought those battles for God. He could have become bitter. Instead, David humbly accepted God’s will. He spent his last years organizing the workers and gathering the supplies his son Solomon would need to build the temple. In doing so, David found new meaning in his life.

Sometimes things don’t work out the way we’d like. We have hopes and plans—then life dashes them. Instead of becoming bitter or discouraged, we should humbly seek God’s guidance. We can ask Him to direct our paths, show us new ways of serving, and find the new meaning in our lives He has for us.

Prayer for Today: Father, help me to trust You and pray, “Your will, not mine, be done.”
