On 15th January 2009, during take-off from LaGuardia airport, a US Airways A320 airbus struck a flock of birds and headed towards certain disaster. The pilot, Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, maneuvered the compromised jetliner over New York City and, despite both engines cutting out, managed to land it on the frigid Hudson River. All 155 people aboard were pulled to safety as the plane slowly sank.
The event, dubbed “Miracle on the Hudson” epitomized the importance of trust. The courageous pilot trusted his training, skills, and staff to support his efforts. The staff trusted their captain which resulted in an orderly and relatively safe exodus from the plane.
For you, Lord, have delivered me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling (Psalm 116:8).
If a human pilot can pull off such an amazing feat, how much more can we trust Jesus who has already overcome death to save us? Jesus repeatedly protects and delivers us as we travel towards our eternal destination.
Challenge for Today: Place your life completely in God’s hands and trust Him to keep you safe.
