Nourish Your Spirit

Food that Satisfies

Read Psalm 90:1–17

Alexander awoke to the aroma of his mother’s biscuits baking in the oven. He was hungry and could hardly wait to get downstairs. He jumped out of bed, washed his face and hands, and made a beeline for the kitchen. When he arrived, his plate was prepared with scrambled eggs and several biscuits smothered with butter and honey. Alexander’s mother wanted to give him food to satisfy the emptiness in his stomach. What she actually gave him was a joyful start to his day.

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days (Psalm 90:14).

Moses must have thought about all the mornings in the wilderness when God fed His people with manna from heaven. In this prayer, Moses implores God, not for earthly food to satisfy a physical hunger, but for spiritual nourishment that brings a lifetime of joy. It is God’s unfailing love that feeds us completely and fills the emptiness in our hearts. Each morning we receive God’s love anew and each day we sing for joy.

Thought for Today: We can enjoy spiritual manna that is fresh and satisfying every morning.
